The system was setup to be entirely web based to warrant accessibility from anywhere in the world, requiring only an Internet connection and a web browser. This also has profound consequences for the system serviceability since any update to ROAM (or any of its applications) is immediately available to its users without the hassle of having to upgrade to the latest version of software.
In addition, the system was setup to be multilingual. The default language for all ROAM applications is English but the system supports Arabic, German, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, French and Spanish, at present.
ROAM can be used on any browser as it complies closely with W3C standards, allowing the use of browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, and Internet Explorer.
ROAM can be used with any type of remote terminal hardware, allowing a customer to use the best-suited piece of hardware for his/her requirements. In addition, several different types of hardware can be used simultaneously, allowing a customer to choose a terminal with optimal characteristics for a particular part of a job.
To allow a customer to choose the best communication system for the job at hand, ROAM is capable of interfacing to any communication network. At the same time, a single customer can use more than one network simultaneously, allowing the use of as many as makes sense for the particular situation.
ROAM can run as one single system on a single machine or, if necessary, distributed over multiple machines. It handles multiple customers and multiple applications simultaneously. If the load on the system is such that additional processing power is required, components can be used in parallel as more machines are added. It will however still be one system, ensuring optimum manageability and serviceability.
